Oana Popescu is Director and founder of GlobalFocus Centre, a foreign policy and strategic analysis think-tank in Romania. Current GFC programmes cover geopolitics and hard security (with a focus on Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, terrorism, migration), as well as politics and soft security (ideological and religious radicalisation, propaganda, information war, global shifts). GlobalFocus also runs a comprehensive database of Romanian democratic transition expertise (primarily centred on good governance) to share with states currently undergoing similar processes, through Romania’s development assistance.

Oana is an international political and foreign policy consultant and analyst, lecturer, writer and media commentator. She also serves as Senior Editor of FP magazine Romania. Formerly, she was Foreign Affairs Adviser to the President of the Romanian Senate, Programmes Director of the Aspen Institute Romania and a long-time journalist working in Romania, the EU, USA, Afghanistan, MENA, Western Balkans etc. She specialised in democratisation, emerging threats and post-conflict reconstruction at Yale University as a Fulbright grantee, in international leadership at Harvard KSG and in terrorism studies at St Andrew's. Oana also works as a business consultant on strategic business development, with a particular focus on emerging markets.
