Francesc Escribano

Francesc Escribano was born in 1958 in Vilanova i la Geltrú. He is a journalist with a degree in Information Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he has taught as an associate professor of audiovisual communication. He has worked in the press and radio. He has spent the last 25 years working mainly in television.

He started at Televisión Española (TVE) and later joined TV3-Televisió de Catalunya. There he was part of the original team for the documentary programme 30 minuts, where he worked for 8 years, later becoming the creator and director of TV3 programmes such as: Ciutadans, El cangur, Les coses com són, Generació D, Vides privades, Bellvitge Hospital, Veterinaris, Jutjats and Dies de transició.

Founder of the department of new formats at Televisió de Catalunya, for 4 years he headed a team that distinguished itself for its ability to lead innovation in various nonfiction genres. In 2000 he was appointed Head of Programmes at TV3 and from January 2004 to 2008 was Director of Televisió de Catalunya.

He is a member of the board of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Emmy), and has also been the Spanish national coordinator of Input since 2004, where he coordinates Spanish representatives at the most important international conference of public television channels held each year.

In the literary sphere he has published various books including: Descalzo sobre la tierra roja, published in Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German, for which he received the 1999 Gaziel prize for biography and memoir, and La historia de Salvador Puig Antich, the book on which the film Salvador, directed by Manuel Huerga and first screened in 2006, was based. During his career he has won, amongst others, the Omnium Cultural prize for television, the Ciutat de Barcelona prize, two international Ondas prizes, and the National Prize for Journalism.

He is currently the production director at the MINORIA ABSOLUTA production company where, amongst many other projects, he has been the executive producer for the documentary series Divided Spain, the Civil War in Colour, as well as the docufictions Suñol, un crit valent, Buscando a Cervantes, Buscando a Agirre and the TV movie Cervantes contra Lope.
